Victory! After huge public pressure, including 20,000 emails to MPs from Ripples supporters, MPs did not receive the pay rise.

MPs are in line to get a pay rise of over £3,000 – a 4% increase in a single year, taking their new total to over £85,000.

This comes at a time when the NHS workers we are all relying on aren’t getting a pay rise at all – and hundreds of thousands of people are losing their jobs.

MPs sometimes argue that they no longer decide their own pay, so there’s nothing they can do. But if they agree that a pay rise for MPs is wrong, they can refuse to take it.

10 MPs so far have pledged to refuse the pay rise, by donating it to charity instead:

As a nurse who has worked throughout the pandemic in very stressful and distressing circumstances, I am appalled that MPs feel that their pay rise is justified when NHS staff are on their knees struggling – not only with the work they do but trying to balance finances when in real terms our pay has been cut.
